Risk Reduction Crew Member

The Central Lyon County Fire Protection District is accepting applications for the position of Risk Reduction Crew Member

Closing date: August 12, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.

Under the direction of a Fire Captain, crew members participate in a comprehensive risk reduction program in the District to reduce or eliminate the loss of life and property by fire and safeguard the community. Risk Reduction Crews are used primarily for working on fuels projects which include hazardous fuels reduction and restoration of fire adapted ecosystems. This work may entail thinning of timber, woodlands, shrubs, or finer fuels with mechanized equipment, chainsaws or hand tools; utilizing prescribed fire to reduce fuels; piling and chipping of slash; chemical application to undesirable fuels; monitoring pre and post fire effects; and fire suppression on occasion. Risk Reduction Crews respond to, and provide support to, District Fire and EMS calls.

 Salary and Benefit Information for 2022: 

  • $26.43 per hour Employee/Employer paid Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) 
  • $22.86 per hour Employer paid PERS 
  • Annual “Step” increase available with satisfactory performance to maximum of Step 4 
  • This is a full-time position funded by NV Energy/SB-508
  • District pays 100% of medical insurance premiums for employee and dependents, including vison and dental
  • IAFF represented position with the Central Lyon County Firefighters Association.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED certificate
  • Completion of S-110, S-130, S-190 (Basic Firefighter) within 6 months of hire
  • Valid Class C Nevada Driver’s License

 Desired Qualifications: 

  • Degree in Fire Science/Forestry/Natural Resources
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) experience
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • NWCG qualified (Red Carded) as Engine Boss or above.
  • NFPA Firefighter 1
  • Experience operating and/or maintaining Heavy Equipment (Dozer, Skid Steer, etc.)

Conditions of Employment:

  • Pass the NWCG arduous Red Card Pack Test
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen, background investigation
  • Submit a DMV driving record printout, obtain F endorsement on Driver’s License within one year
