Fire Prevention - WUI Designation

gold line

The Nevada State Fire Marshal is required by NRS 477.030 to adopt regulations and enforce laws relating to the prevention of fire in any county whose population is less than 100,000.  On February 27, 2020 the State Fire Marshal adopted the 2018 International Wildland-Urban Interface Code and it became effective in Lyon County, Nevada, and in Central Lyon County Fire Protection District.

The 2018 WUI Code is founded on principals intended to mitigate the hazard from fires through the development of provisions that adequately protect public health, safety, and welfare; provisions that do not unnecessarily increase constructions cost; provisions that do not restrict the u se of  new materials, products or methods of construction; and provisions that do not give preferential treatment to particular types or classes of materials, products or methods of construction.  The Code Development Committee included members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

Central Lyon Fire Protection District has an Interlocal Agreement with the Nevada State Fire Marshal that delegates certain fire and life safety functions, including Building Plan Review Code enforcement to the District.

Pursuant to Section 302.1 fo the 2018 International Wildland-Urban Interface Code and in accordance with Appendix E of said Code, the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District has declared on the attached map the wildland-urban interface areas of the District.
